amity insurance personal services Your home is your castle...your home also holds all the things you value and have worked so hard for you and your family. There are many considerations when it comes to keeping your home safe. Since every home is different, we can review what options are available based on your needs. Most homeowners policies cover fire and smoke damage, personal belongings, theft, liability, and other risks.

There may coverages that you need to add because they are not on a standard policy, such as flood, earthquake, and high value belongings. You may also want to combining your home and auto policy to receive a multi-policy discount. You can also qualify for discounts by installing anti-theft devices, fire extinguishers, dead bolt locks, smoke detectors, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems.

The Basics

Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters. A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.

Homeowners insurance is a package policy. This means that it covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. This includes damage caused by household pets.

Damage caused by most disasters is covered but there are exceptions. The most significant are damage caused by floods, earthquakes and poor maintenance. You must buy two separate policies for flood and earthquake coverage. Maintenance-related problems are the homeowners' responsibility.

What is in a standard homeowners insurance policy?
  • A standard homeowners insurance policy includes four essential types of coverage.
  • They include:
  • Coverage for the structure of your home.
  • Coverage for your personal belongings.
  • Liability protection.
  • Additional living expenses in the event you are temporarily unable to live in your home because of a fire or other insured disaster.
